About the Tim Horton Children's Foundation

Founded by Tim Hortons, Co-Founder Ron Joyce, the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation was established in 1974 to honour Tim Horton’s love for children, and his desire to help those less fortunate.

Our programs are designed to change the way young people from low income homes think about themselves, and develop life skills that will help them succeed in the future.

  Camp Changes Lives

“This experience has boosted my son’s confidence dramatically; he is more willing to try new things and isn't as afraid of failing, which is why he is now trying so hard in school. He is more willing to stand up for himself and others as well. The added confidence he has radiates off him, and he still talks constantly about his experiences at camp.”

Our Mission

The Tim Horton Children's Foundation is dedicated to fostering within our children the quest for a brighter future. Foundation camp experiences are more than just a fun trip away from home. Our programs are designed to provide children and youth with opportunities to develop life skills that make them more likely to succeed and less likely to live in poverty as adults.

The Need

Across Canada and the United States, one in seven children and youth live in poverty. These young people have the ability and desire to succeed, but often lack the opportunities and face numerous barriers to reach their full potential. Together, we can change this.

The Tim Horton Children's Foundation was established in 1974 in memory of the great hockey player, Tim Horton, to honour his love for children and desire to help those less fortunate. The first camp was built in Parry Sound, Ontario, and was home to over 200 campers in its first summer of operation in 1975. Today the Foundation has seven camps located across Canada and one in the United States.

Our Camper Outcomes

Foundation camp experiences are designed to help children and youth develop leadership and life skills, gain insight into their personal development and set goals for the future. Our campers return home more likely to:

  • Make positive decisions and take responsibility for their action
  • Show respect for themselves, others and the environment
  • Contribute to their families, schools and communities
  • Build healthy relationships and demonstrate empathy
  • Try new things, take on challenges and bounce back from adversity
  • Be confident in their ability to shape their own futures
